Flow Ruaha Returns

Around December 2, 2023 the flow has returned at the Park HQ.

Alert Three

The drainage flow at Nyaluhanga is assessed to have dropped under the criticial level on September 28, 2023 (right). The drop of the water level and flow is illustrated in the image slider with the flow status on August 4, 2023 on the left.

The Ruaha River is expected to dry downstream, the end of October or early November 2023, without the arrival of the seasonal rains early November.

Alert Two

First zero flow in the Ruaha River in the 2023 dry season is observed at Mtera on August 26, 2023. On August 21, 2023 there was still some flow detected as illustrated in the images below, but eventually stopped between both dates. For more details please visit the analytical page.

Alert One

The period July 27, 2023 and August 8, 2023 had some cloudy days which may have delayed the occurrence of Alert One with one week or more. Alert One is now announced on August 8, 2023. Compare the Landsat 7 images of one month before zero flow at Mtera in 2022 and 2023.
