Between January 2 and 11, 2026 return of flow
Due to 10 days of cloudiness, it is attempted to be narrowed using SAR (Radar) data from Sentinel-1 satellite to narrow down on the actual date of “return of flow”. Unfortunately only January 11, 2026 has data which at least reduces the period with one day as on January 11, 2026 water is detected by the SAR data. The image below shows the return of flow on January 12, 2026 copied from the maji yetu gee-map. Compare with the dry riverbed (zero-flow) on the previous satellite image on January 2, 2026.

Zero Flow 2025 Ruaha River (Mtera) on July 18
The screenshots from maji yetu GEE Map, illustrate the dwindling supply to the Zero Flow virtual drainage assessment station (VDAS) on July 11, 2025. The detail of the visual inspection leading to the zero flow announcement for July 18, 2025 are here.

Flow Ruaha at Mtera on May 22, 2025
Comparing the flow in the Ruaha on May 22, 2025 with last year low flow season, shows less flow than on June 26, 2024. End of June was some 3 months before zero flow at the same location (Alert 2) when the Ruaha fell dry on September 24, 2024.
This predicts a zero flow in 2025 at Mtera around mid August, 2025.
